All-Star Weekend
Unlike the NFL’s pro bowl equivalent, the NBA’s All-Star game is an entire day of extravaganzas. Including the 3-point shootout, skills contest and the infamous Dunk contest.
The day of events will be shown on TNT this Saturday at 7 PM ET.
Also to take place on Friday the 7th on TNT is the All-Star Celebrity game. Musician Common, Chris Tucker, Anthony Anderson from NBC’s Law and Order, Pitbull and Mark Cuban who owns the Dallas Mavericks will all be playing. Coaching will include a few retro players from Magic Johnson to Alonzo Mourning.
The starting lineups according to NBA.COM for the All-Star Game will consist of:
West: Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire.
East: Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, Dwight Howard, LeBron James and Kevin Garnett.
2009’s All-Star Game Highlights
For the West, Kobe is unsure if he will play, and Brandon Roy is positive he will not be playing. Though the game keeps score be on the lookout for crazy basketball to be played. Winning is winning, but the All-Star game is about fancy passes, high flying dunks and the far-fetched 3-pointers from the Centers.
Though this year the Dunk contest will be a little less eventful then promised without LeBron it should be a show as it always is. The dunk contest involves four players going up against each other with personal predetermined dunks in a series of four rounds until a champion is crowned. This year the contestants are Derozan, Gordon, Wallace and Robinson.
